Richard Fairbanks AES Broadcast 2008 | Aug 1, 2008, 14:05
Richard Fairbanks is a re-recording mixer and sound team supervisor working primarily with long form television and film productions. Starting at Universal Recording Corporation in Chicago in 1977, he began gathering a list of mixing credits and awards for bands, jingles, documentaries, musicals, dramatic and comic narratives, corporate sales pieces, and radio plays. New York became his home 10 years later. In 1993 he co-founded Pharoah Editorial, Inc. to provide audio and video post production services. A relentless tinkerer, Richard found an “accidental” parallel career in equipment design and manufacture with the design of Syncheck, an audio/video synchronization measuring tool, in 2005. Created as an in-house test box it quickly evolved into a commercial product, Syncheck, which remains current and is sold to post production facilities world-wide. Mr. Fairbanks is a classically trained oboist with a Bachelor of Music Education from West Texas State University, and has composed theme and underscore music for several corporate and network productions. Above all else, he is an old grump.
